Eye Disease Diagnosis & Management

Keeping Your Eyes Happy & Healthy

An early-stage diagnosis is vital for treating or managing eye disease. To help you get the care you need as soon as possible, we rely on cutting-edge technology. Our technology and extensive experience can help you feel confident that you are the best possible care at Lieberman & Lieberman.

Some eye conditions do not show noticeable symptoms until permanent vision loss has already occurred, so it is important to have a professional assess your eyes for pre-symptomatic signs of disease.

We follow the latest developments in eye care so we can best detect and treat cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, dry eye, conjunctivitis, flashes and floaters, diabetic retinopathy, presbyopia, astigmatism, and digital eye strain, and more.

Diabetic Retinopathy

People that have diabetes, especially uncontrolled diabetes, run a higher risk of developing diabetic retinopathy. The best way to prevent permanent damage is to undergo regular comprehensive eye exams, so we can catch any issues early before they can progress.

We use fundus photography in our diabetic eye exams to photograph the back of the eye, allowing us to pinpoint signs of diabetic retinopathy. Diabetic retinopathy causes the blood vessels in the eye to swell or leak, leading to bleeding at the back of the eye that can cause vision problems and even blindness. Often, this disease is asymptomatic, so it is crucial to have your eyes checked regularly to detect signs of trouble as soon as possible.

Although diabetic retinopathy often does not show symptoms during its early stages, as the disease progresses, you may notice dark spots in your vision or experience blurry vision.

Additionally, if you start experiencing double vision, pain, pressure, or discoloration in one or both eyes, book an appointment as soon as possible.

Presbyopia

As we age, our eyesight may begin to deteriorate, causing vision troubles. The lens in our eye is naturally flexible, allowing us to focus on things close up and far away without difficulty and shift our focus quickly. However, with age, the lens becomes increasingly inflexible, making it difficult to focus on objects close up – a condition called presbyopia.

There is little you can do to prevent presbyopia since it is a byproduct of the natural aging process. Most of us will likely experience some sort of vision loss as we get older.

If you have noticed recent issues with your vision, there are a few tell-tale signs that may point to presbyopia. If you have to hold objects at arm’s length to focus on them clearly, are experiencing blurred vision, are unable to read small text, or need more light to see things, you may be suffering from presbyopia.

This condition can be diagnosed using a comprehensive eye exam, so please book an appointment to have your eyes evaluated today!

Conjunctivitis

Commonly referred to as “pink eye”, conjunctivitis occurs when the thin layer of tissue that lines the inner surface of the eyelid (conjunctiva) becomes red and inflamed. Viral or bacterial infections cause most conjunctivitis cases, and both frequently occur in children.

Additionally, conjunctivitis can be caused by an allergic reaction to irritants such as pollen, pet dander, or smoke.

If your eyes begin to feel gritty, itchy, or watery, you develop a brown-yellow discharge, and the whites of your eyes are tinged pink, you should book an appointment as soon as possible. Conjunctivitis is very contagious, so it is better to have it treated sooner than later.
